Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at terraornamentum@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Terraornamentum is pronounced "tare (rhymes with air)- uh - ornament (like a tree ornament)- um"

Tare-uh-ornament-um. Terraornamentum! :)

It roughly translates from Latin to "Earth Jewelry" or "Earth Decoration". I felt like it would be consistent with the jewelry I like to make, and any ceramic projects or earthy decor I may come up with, that I may offer in the future!

Lichen and sand!

Lichen is not technically a plant; but it is a life form, often lumped in with moss (which is a plant).

It's actually really cool [incoming science disclaimer]. Lichen is a symbiotic colony of two different organisms. You have photosynthesizing organisms existing as an upper layer, and fungi as a bottom layer! The upper layer is usually algae, or some cyanobacteria. Many different fungi species can act as the partner to the photosynthesizer. Most of the time they also house some species of yeast (also a fungus) that I like to think of as their little pet.

I like to think of it as immortallized. The lichen is fully preserved through a process where glycerin is infused to replace the moisture in the lichen's cells, to keep the springy texture. It is unfadable, unkillable, and eternally beautiful!

Tweezers and patience 😌

UV-reactive pigment is mixed into resin, which is then pipetted into the teeny bottles. They glow in the dark after absorbing UV rays, either from the sun or a blacklight. The pigments hold onto the UV rays instead of immediately reflecting them, so that when they are viewed in darkness, they emit photons with a specific wavelength, producing light of that specific color! This process is called photoluminescence.

Yes, we offer lifetime warranties on all of our jewelry. Our warranties cover any defects in materials or workmanship and provide free repairs or replacements if necessary.

The tiny bottles used are made of glass, and sometimes they break! Just email me or message me on instagram and we can work it out!

Yes! You can find them here.
